Family Caregiver Alliance (FCA)

Can I Get Help to Pay for Caregiving?

The Elderly and Disabled Waiver is a Medicaid program that helps elderly or disabled adults remain living at home. Services may include respite, home delivered meals, transportation, adult day care, case management, and homemaker services.

The Personal Choices Program is a Medicaid program that allows for care recipients to pick and choose their own care providers, which can include family members. This consumer direction option is available to those enrolled in a Home and Community Based Waiver Services program, such as the SAIL  program and the Elderly and Disabled Waiver. Under the Personal Choices Program, a monthly allowance is provided, in which the care recipient can use to hire help, pay for medical equipment, or cover other care expenses.

State of Alabama Independent Living Medicaid Waiver (SAIL)

The SAIL waiver is designed to accomodate disabled adults to remain living at home rather than a nursing facility. Diagnoses recognized as a disability include, but not limited to: Traumatic Brain Injury, Stroke, severe Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Quadriplegia, as well as other neurological diseases or impairments. Services may include:

-Environmental Accessibility Adaptations

-Minor assistive technology

Alabama County-Specific Veterans Service Officer Contacts (VSO)

SenioRx is a prescription medication assistance program that has helped thousands of Alabamians receive FREE or LOW-COST prescription medications from pharmaceutical companies. SenioRx is for Alabamians with disabilities regardless of age or persons aged 55 and older who have been diagnosed with at least one medical condition that requires a prescription medication.

Statewide Technology Access and Response (STAR) System

Home Health & Community Services – Alabama Public Health
